Filming Process - AS TASK
For the filming process we used the Media department's Canon XM2s. We used digital video cassettes to record as these can be easily captured onto suitable software later on that was Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.
During filming we made notes to film from the traditional angle for interviews, we looked at two Documentary's in order to get an idea of the codes and conventions that an Interview must have to be effective. We gained alot of ideas from the two documentary's, we learnt that The subject sits parallel to the interviewer, with the camera off around 45 degrees to the subject. After we had the questions and answers recorded we went out to record cut aways, to use in between the interviewee's answers during editing. An example of this is below.

Editing Process - AS TASK
For the editing process we used Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. We captured the video from the
digital video cassettes we used to film. We proceeded to edit out the interviewers questions leaving only the interviewee answering in full sentences. We also captured the cut aways we had filmed earlier to use in between the interviewees answers to avoid the appearance of jump cuts. We gathered relevant clips and images from exterior sources to use as well. Mainly statistics and graphs that we narrated over. We also used copyright free music to use as a bed. As well as chart hits that fitted with the theme of telephones. The cutting tool was handy whilst editing because it allowed us to point out precisely where we wanted to cut the clip that we had filmed from start to finnish for a nice finnish, also it was to cut music up as we had to find the right level of music that intergrates then into the speaking parts of the documentary.

Planning Process - AS TASK
Brainstorming ideas for documentary
Stock footage of people on mobile phones - At least 10
Consider the big phone poster in the IT corridor
Find statistics - Phone sales, ownership, average age
Image sequences of mobiles with commentary
Talk about convergence - Mobiles are also cameras, Internet browsers
Consider going to golden square for information on current mobiles
Featured - Texting/texting speed
Possible interviewees - Laura's friends
Phone themed music and music videos
Final decisions
Could not find big phone poster
Golden square required filming permission
Final interviewee - Laura De'velle typical student who uses their phone daily
Extracted phone music from YouTube
Statistics graphics to be used as cut-aways
More cut aways filmed around college
Found 'Evolution of mobiles' sequence
We wanted to create a Documentary around a Typical teenage mobile user, as we would like to direct this documentary to a younger audience for them to relate to, the images we have captured are quirky and relate to the subject well, After we shot our scenes we regrettably didn't use the blue screen in order to change the background of the interviewee, this would of been a better idea as we could of put the subject the interviewee was talking about behind.
